Basic Firearm Functionality Explained
Main Components of a Firearm
Barrel: The barrel is a key part of any firearm. It is where the projectile or bullet travels through with the help of an explosive charge, also known as propellant.
Receiver: The receiver houses the operable parts of the firearm. It includes the trigger mechanism, bolt, and firing pin.
Magazine: The magazine holds the ammunition and allows for easy loading and firing of cartridges.
Working Together
When a firearm is fired, the firing pin strikes the primer on the cartridge in the chamber of the barrel. This ignites the gunpowder, creating pressure that propels the projectile through the barrel towards the target.
The action of the firearm, such as lever action, helps in feeding, chambering, locking, firing, unlocking, extracting, ejecting, and cocking. These processes work together smoothly to ensure that the firearm functions correctly.
